Justin Leard
Nature & Macro Photographer | Northwest Arkansas

Maybe an image of me or a behind the scenese shot of me.

Hi, I’m Justin Leard — a nature and macro photographer based in Northwest Arkansas, where forests, open skies, and quiet trails shape my perspective behind the lens.

Photography is how I slow down and truly see the world—whether I’m exploring distant landscapes or peering into the intricate details of a tiny insect. Capturing these slowed-down moments helps me appreciate the present and share the wonder I see with others.

How my journey began

My journey into photography grew out of a love for drawing and digital art, where I spent countless hours using Krita and a Huion 19″ tablet to create detailed illustrations. I’d always enjoyed photography, having used a beginner DSLR years ago, but I was never satisfied with my compositions. That changed when I bought a Canon R7 and set out to explore macro photography—a world of tiny dramas and delicate moments often missed by the casual eye.

My first lens was the Laowa 100mm 2x Ultra Macro, chosen for its build quality and affordability. It was through this lens that I truly began to see. I made every mistake imaginable—blurry shots, missed focus, wrong aperture—but between those mistakes, I found something magical: a fly with a damaged eye, a bee resting in the fold of a leaf, an ant tending to its young. I was hooked.

Today, I use a range of Canon and specialty lenses to capture both the grand and the minute.

Over time, my photography has grown from a personal passion into a shared experience—my images now decorate a number of homes across Arkansas, adding beauty and calm to the spaces where people live and gather.

Artistic Intent

My intent is simple: to reveal the beauty and quiet stories that surround us every day. Whether it’s the vast calm of a starry night or the tiny symmetry of an insect’s wings, I aim to inspire others to slow down, notice, and reconnect with the natural world. Through each image, I hope to offer a sense of presence, stillness, and wonder—moments that many now enjoy in their own homes through my printed work.

When I’m not behind the camera, I enjoy hiking, traveling, creating art, and spending time with my family and our dog. Whether you’re drawn to pollinators, planets, or peaceful moments, I hope my photography encourages you to see the world a little differently.
